A different kind of nutritional therapy..
Welcome to Lotus Health + Nutrition, where the focus is on nourishing both body and mind without the constraints of diet culture.
At Lotus, we embrace a non-diet, weight-neutral approach to health, recognising that true wellness extends far beyond the number on a scale. Whether you’re seeking support for improving energy levels, managing chronic conditions, or enhancing your overall well-being, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your relationship with food and body without fear or shame.
Consultations are centred around your individual needs, goals, and experiences. Together, we’ll explore the diverse aspects of health, from intuitive eating and joyful movement, to cultivating a positive relationship with food and body. Instead of focusing on weight loss or rigid dietary rules, I empower you to reconnect with your body’s signals, honour your unique preferences, and cultivate a sense of trust and respect for your body’s wisdom.
Together, we’ll work towards creating a sustainable, compassionate approach to health that honours your individuality and promotes self-care from a place of kindness and acceptance.
Thank you for considering Lotus Health + Nutrition as your partner on this journey towards true wellness
A little about me..
Hi! I’m Deb, a Certified Practicing Nutritionist and Paediatric Nutritionist that likes to do things a little differently
I’m a nutrition nerd with a passion for punk rock and a love of all things spicy! I believe life should be lived in comfortable clothes, which is why you’ll usually find me donned in jeans, a t-shirt and Converse Chuck Taylors!
I grew up in a family where dieting and food rules (for the most part) weren’t a thing. We celebrated every occasion with food and I remember those times (and the food) very fondly. Throughout my teens I was into sports, ate whatever I liked and never really worried about my body size or what I looked like.
After I had my first child, I was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s) and my weight slowly started to go up and up! Unhappy with how my body was changing, I fell victim to the harmful messaging and hollow promises of diet culture. After years of trying one diet after another and failing to lose any weight, my self-confidence was in the gutter and I felt miserable.
My journey in nutrition began after losing two very close friends way too young. I desperately wanted to help myself and those around me to live long and healthy lives, so I embarked on a degree in nutritional science. As my understanding of nutrition grew, unfortunately so did the rigidity of my food rules and the emergence of disordered eating patterns.
Why I’m a non-diet nutritionist
Following the launch of Lotus Health + Nutrition, I initially consulted my new clients using traditional dietetics methods: conducting food recalls, calculating macro and micro nutrients, offering rigid meal plans and eating schedules, and imposing strict rules on food and eating. Over time, I came to the realisation that this approach wasn’t effective for most clients and was, in fact, exacerbating their damaged relationships with food and their bodies.
So I started learning about the principles of Intuitive Eating and Health At Every Size (HAES) and became a non-diet nutritionist. Over time, I’ve developed an approach centred on self-compassion, body acceptance, and promoting balance instead of resorting to restrictive diets or quick fixes. With each client, I offer empathy, understanding, and trust in the innate wisdom of the body. I believe that health is not defined by a number on a scale, but by how you feel in your body and the quality of your life .
While I work with clients across all age groups with a wide variety of health concerns, I’m especially passionate about combating the harmful effects of diet culture, fostering body positivity in young people, supporting individuals recovering from disordered eating, and enhancing mental health related to body image.
